What is polystyrene? Polystyrene is a versatile plastic used to make a wide variety of consumer products. As a hard, solid plastic, it is applied to manufacture products that require clarity, such as food packaging and laboratory ware. Polystyrene also is made into a foam material, called expanded polystyrene (EPS) or extruded polystyrene (XPS), which is valued for its insulating and cushioning properties.

XPS is widely used as insulation material in the construction industry. Extruded polystyrene is used in construction and other environments by different industries because of its high quality, durability, and wide adaptability. The compressed EPS blocks can be sold to manufacturers with XPS recycling machines, rather than simply thrown away as garbage. The compacted density of EPS blocks is about 200kg/m³. Therefore, compared with ordinary EPS foam products, the compacted EPS foam can significantly reduce transportation and handling costs.
